THE SPACE BETWEEN

There’s something I’ve noticed after a decade of teaching that rarely gets discussed: the most profound transformation doesn’t happen in the achievement of the perfect pose or at the end of a 30 day yoga challenge...
It happens in the space between.
Between the inhale and exhale. Between pushing and surrendering.Between who you were and who you’re becoming.
We live in a culture obsessed with measurable outcomes. Weight lost. Flexibility gained. Milestones reached. But what if our fixation on these external markers is causing us to miss the real work?
The truth is, healing doesn’t happen in straight lines. Growth isn’t always visible from the outside. And the most important practice might be learning to stay present in the uncomfortable in-between spaces... when you’re no longer who you were but not yet who you’ll become.
I see this with students recovering from injury, navigating grief, or healing from trauma. The real breakthrough is learning to breathe through the uncertainty, to feel without fixing, to be with what is.
This is what we’re rarely taught: how to exist in the unresolved spaces. How to navigate transition without rushing to the next solid ground.
Perhaps the most radical act isn’t achieving, it’s allowing.
Allowing yourself to be unfinished. Allowing the process to unfold at its own pace. Allowing the space between to be a place of power, not just passage.
Next time you’re in a moment of transition, uncertainty, or the messy middle… remember, this isn’t the space before your real life begins.
This is where the magic happens.
